The Your Heritage, Your Museum project focuses on local heritage across the Borough of Broxbourne, positioning Lowewood Museum as a community, cultural and heritage hub through a three- year programme of outreach activity that aims to engage the diverse range of communities from Waltham Cross in the south to Hoddesdon at the northern end of the Borough discovering and celebrating their local heritage. Community Engagement Officer. Part-time (22.5 hours per week). £15k per annum.

This is a part time post and is being offered on a fixed term contract for three years, funded by NLHF, and local partners through the Your Heritage – Your Museum project. Lowewood Museum receives National Lottery Heritage Fund grant.

PRESS RELEASE

Lowewood Museum Trust CIO is awarded a £228,800 grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to focus on community heritage.

Lowewood Museum Trust CIO has received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £228,800 for an exciting heritage project entitled Your Heritage, Your Museum which will work with diverse communities throughout the Borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the three year project seeks to expand the Museum’s engagement beyond its traditional audience by working with community groups throughout the Borough to capture their local stories, past and present.

Supported through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the ‘Your Heritage, Your Museum’ programme will recruit community curators through a series of outreach activities, pop up events and locally generated exhibitions. They will help redefine and refresh the Museum galleries to tell local stories, past and present, replacing the dated static displays alongside an enhanced virtual presence and digital engagement. This approach will draw upon Lowewood Museum’s extensive photographic collection to reinforce local identity and sense of place.

Audiences with whom the museum are keen to develop stronger relationships include younger people, socially isolated older adults and those with mental health needs through work with NHS social prescribers. Other strands to the project include the development of the museum’s gardens to enhance biodiversity and the redevelopment of the museum’s website. Two staff will shortly be recruited to manage the programme.

In addition to the considerable financial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, there has been funding for the programme from Broxbourne Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council locality budgets and the Love Hoddesdon Business Improvement District. The project is also endorsed by many community partners including the U3A, Broxbourne Arts Forum, the CVS for Broxbourne and East Herts, the Broxbourne Alliance NHS Primary Care Network and the Wormley and Turnford Big Local.

Commenting on the award, Steve Whitlam, (Lowewood Museum CIO trustee) said: “We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players. The Trust has an ambition for the museum to engage with a broader range of residents from throughout the Borough of Broxbourne and this funding will enable this vision to be realised.”
